Details

This year is the Year of the Lion.

The third edition of our “BIG 5" series challenge.


SANParks and the Marakele National Park are proud to host the 12th annual Marakele Marathon on 7 March 2020.


The race starts and finishes at the Marakele National Park main gate and is an official Comrades marathon and 2 Oceans marathon qualifying race. The route will lead runners on an adventure through the park which is habitat to all of the Big 5 as well as the second largest (800 breeding pairs) Cape Vulture colony in the world.


Marakele rangers and SANParks Honorary rangers will be present along the route to keep runners safe and hydrated at all times.

No vehicles or bicycles will be allowed on the route (official vehicles only)
3.
The race referee will handle all disputes and his/her decision in disputes will be final
4.
2020 license number or temporary licenses must be worn on the back of their vest.
5.
Age categories must be displayed on the front and back of vest;.
6.
Water points every 3 km with toilets, and refreshments.
7.
